A number of states have discovered an increase in attempts to file fraudulent income tax returns as a result of identity theft. The Nebraska Department of Revenue (Department) takes seriously our responsibility to protect the personal information of Nebraska taxpayers and the computer systems that use that information. The Department vigorously investigates and monitors all fraudulent filing activity and is working closely with our partners in the tax preparation software industry, other states, and the IRS in combatting these activities.

If you have any information regarding the filing of fraudulent income tax returns, please report it to the Department using the Report Nebraska Tax Fraud link on the Department’s website at revenue.nebraska.gov.
