Facts About the Nebraska Individual Income Tax Filing Season

LINCOLN – On January 14, 2015, the Nebraska Department of Revenue (Department) will open the NebFile for Individuals free income tax electronic filing system. All other electronically-filed income tax returns will be accepted by the Department beginning January 20, 2015. The IRS has also announced that it will open the federal filing season on January 20.

The Department will mail individual income tax booklets in late January to those taxpayers who filed the paper forms included in the booklet last year. If you file a paper income tax return, it may take up to three months for your refund to be issued, so please consider e-file as a fast, secure, and easy way to file your return.

Tax refunds are generally issued in less than 21 days after we receive your e-filed income tax return and direct deposit banking information.

For more information on the Department’s e-file and electronic payment options, as well as the most up-to-date filing information, see the Department’s website at revenue.nebraska.gov. Updated information on the availability of IRS forms and filing options can be found at IRS.gov.
