Changes in Local Sales and Use Tax Rates – Effective October 1, 2016

LINCOLN – Tax Commissioner Tony Fulton announced today, that effective on October 1, 2016, the villages of Bellwood and Leigh will each start a new local sales and use tax at the rate of 1.5%. Also, the village of Dodge will increase its local sales and use tax rate from 1% to 1.5%, and the city of Oshkosh will increase its local sales and use tax rate from 1.5% to 2%. These changes are shown on the Nebraska Department of Revenue’s (Department) website at revenue.nebraska.gov under the Sales and Use Tax link.

Local sales and use tax receipts are reported to the Department along with state sales and use tax receipts, and are distributed to the communities where they were collected. If sales tax is not collected on a taxable sale by the retailer at the time of purchase, the buyer is responsible for paying the appropriate use tax directly to the Department. Information on all the sales and use tax rates are on the Department’s website under the Sales and Use Tax link.

Be sure to register for the free GovDelivery® subscription service on the Department’s website to get website updates through email and/or mobile alerts as they happen.
